Frequently asked questions.
What kind of issues can therapy help children, teenagers and young adults with?
My South London psychotherapy practice specialises in supporting teenagers and young adults facing a wide range of challenges. This includes, but isn't limited to, anxiety (including social anxiety, exam stress, and panic attacks), depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, peer pressure, identity issues, body image concerns, academic stress, grief and loss, and navigating significant life transitions (like starting university or moving out). If you're feeling overwhelmed, sad, angry, or just "not yourself," therapy can provide a safe and confidential space to explore these feelings and develop healthy coping strategies.
How do I know if therapy is right for me or my child and how do I get started?
Deciding to start therapy is a personal choice, but if you're struggling to cope with daily life, experiencing persistent sadness or worry, or finding it hard to manage your emotions, it's a good indication that therapy could be beneficial. For parents concerned about their child, look for changes in mood, behaviour, sleep patterns, or academic performance. To get started, simply contact me for a free initial consultation. This confidential chat allows me to understand your needs, answer any questions you have, and discuss how I can best support you. There's no obligation, and it's a good way to see if we're the right fit.
Is therapy confidential and what can I expect during a session with you?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy and is particularly important when working with teenagers and young adults. Everything discussed in your therapy sessions is strictly confidential, with very few exceptions (primarily concerning immediate safety risks and professional supervision, which will be thoroughly explained during our initial meeting). During a typical 50-minute session, you can expect a non-judgmental and supportive environment where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. We'll work together to understand your experiences, identify patterns, and develop strategies to help you navigate challenges and build resilience. The specific approach will be tailored to your individual needs and goals.
How long does therapy usually last and what are your fees?
The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on individual needs and goals. Some young people find a few sessions helpful for specific issues, while others benefit from longer-term support to address deeper concerns. We will regularly review your progress together.
Fees are set at £80 per session. Please visit the 'About' page on the website for detailed information on current rates, or contact me directly.
Where is your psychotherapy practice located and do you offer online sessions?
My therapy rooms are conveniently located in the heart of South London, with excellent transport links. We are just a short walk from Herne Hill railway station and there are several bus stops directly outside, making it easily accessible from various areas across South London, including Brixton, East Dulwich, Dulwich Village, Camberwell and Tulse Hill. It is a safe and private space that is easy for teenagers and young adults to reach independently or with parents.
Where possible I work in-person, although there are always times when working online is most practical. This is something we can discuss together when we meet and we plan to best meet your needs
